Many farmers don’t realize that pineapple is a sun-loving crop that performs best under full sunlight. As a CAM (Crassulacean Acid Metabolism) plant, pineapple captures carbon dioxide at night and relies on daylight energy to convert it into sugars. Without enough sunlight during the day, this process slows down, resulting in low sugar content, smaller fruits, and reduced yields.

Planting pineapple in shaded areas such as near trees or structures limits its ability to photosynthesize effectively. This not only affects the plant’s growth but also reduces fruit quality and sweetness. For best results, farmers should plant pineapples in open fields with uninterrupted sunlight throughout the day. This ensures proper sugar formation, healthy growth, and higher market value of the fruits.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
