Ankara, Turkey — September 23, 2024

In a heartfelt reaction to the launch of the ‘Breeding Broiler Production Project’ by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TİKA) in Somalia, agricultural expert and food security advocate Paschal Nnaemeka has expressed his strong support for this transformative initiative. He believes it has the potential to significantly improve the region’s agricultural landscape.

“This project is a game changer,” Nnaemeka said, highlighting its goal to reduce Somalia’s dependence on imported chicken meat while empowering local farmers. “By focusing on local production, we’re not just feeding families; we’re also fostering economic growth in rural communities, which is essential for lifting livelihoods and creating jobs.”

Nnaemeka particularly commended the establishment of a Feed Production Centre at City University’s Faculty of Agriculture. “Access to quality feed is critical for successful poultry farming. By providing farmers with the resources they need, TİKA is laying a strong foundation for sustainable poultry production in Somalia,” he noted.

The training programs offered to students and faculty as part of the initiative also caught his attention. “Investing in education is vital. It’s not just about teaching farming techniques; it’s about equipping the next generation with the knowledge and skills to tackle food security challenges head-on,” Nnaemeka emphasized.

He also recognized the strategic choice of using Türkiye’s Anadolu-T broiler breed. “This breed is known for its robust growth and resilience. It’s a smart move that can lead to better productivity and ultimately contribute to food safety for local communities,” he explained.

In closing, Paschal Nnaemeka described the ‘Breeding Broiler Production Project’ as a beacon of hope for Somalia’s agricultural future. “This initiative goes beyond poultry farming; it’s about transforming the agricultural sector, ensuring food availability, and building a sustainable future for communities across the region,” he said, reflecting his optimism for the project’s impact on local lives.
