To all ginger farmers, we highly recommend using single bud technology for growing your seedlings. This approach helps produce healthier, disease-free plants, which is key for a good harvest.
Start by setting up a shade house with about 60% coverage, as this creates the right environment for your seedlings. Make sure to get your rhizomes from trusted suppliers so you know they’re top quality and disease-free. Begin by washing the rhizomes thoroughly, then treat them with a fungicide to protect against rot. Be sure to follow the recommended dosage, soak the rhizomes for 30 minutes, and let them dry in a well-ventilated spot.
Next, cut the treated rhizomes into single buds, around 5 grams each, using a sharp, clean knife. After that, soak the single buds in the fungicide solution for another 30 minutes. When planting, use nursery trays filled with good-quality grow mix. To keep costs down, you can make the grow mix yourself using local compost materials.
Once the buds are planted, place the trays under the shade house and water them carefully, don’t overdo it, as too much water can cause problems. About 20 days in, you can spray a micronutrient solution to boost their growth.
Keep an eye on your seedlings, and remove any that look odd or unhealthy. With the right care, your seedlings should be ready to transplant in 35-40 days. Using this method will help you grow stronger, more consistent plants, leading to a better yield at harvest time.
