In a recent discussion with agricultural expert and food security advocate Paschal Nnaemeka, praise was heaped on Governor Rev’d Fr Hyacinth Iormnem Alia for his transformative efforts in revitalizing Benue State’s agricultural sector. Nnaemeka, who is widely respected for his expertise in crop science, lauded the governor’s initiatives as “bold and decisive,” marking a turnaround for a state historically known as the “Food Basket of the Nation.”
According to Nnaemeka, Governor Alia’s establishment of the Bureau of Agricultural Development and Mechanization is a game-changer. “This move is crucial in bringing modern agricultural technology, quality seeds, and essential inputs directly to the farmers,” Nnaemeka stated. He emphasized that such steps are vital for increasing crop yields and improving the livelihoods of farmers, ultimately enhancing the nation’s food security.
Nnaemeka also highlighted the governor’s proactive distribution of 60,000 bags of fertilizer at subsidized rates, noting that this was the first time in over 40 years that Benue farmers received such support at the start of the farming season. “This is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to empowering farmers and boosting agricultural productivity,” he added.
In addition, Nnaemeka praised the low-interest loans provided to rural women across the state, calling it a significant move to stimulate economic growth at the grassroots level. He also commended the strategic partnerships forged with international organizations like IFAD and ACReSAL, which are expected to open new opportunities for value addition, agro-processing, and job creation in Benue.
“Governor Alia’s leadership is not just about restoring Benue’s agricultural glory,” Nnaemeka concluded. “It’s about setting a new standard for agricultural development across Nigeria. His vision and dedication are making a tangible difference, and the future of food production in our nation looks much brighter with such forward-thinking governance.”
